Travel Insurance

Although my trip this week was canceled and I was able to recoup my expenditures on tickets and lodging arrangements, it reminded me that Travel Insurance is always a good idea. Especially now that I’m all flu-icky and wouldn’t get on a plane for $200 (although I’d probably do it for $300, depending on the eventual destination). I recently discovered TravelSafe, a family-owned and operated business that has been working hard to protect the traveler since 1971, through a recent press release. Apparently, TravelSafe offers an industry-first — a “Cancel For Any Reason” option — plus coverage for hurricane warnings and other inclement weather, worldwide medical protection and emergency medical evacuation, coverage for pre-existing medical conditions, trip cancellation/interruption, even the ever-present threat of terrorism. Before this weekend’s attack in Glasgow, on the very airport I’ve flown into dozens of times, I never considered visiting my family to be a risky prospect, even though I was in the air on 9/11. Travel seems to be an increasingly complicated undertaking — from fear to “mechanical difficulties” to acts of god — and so I think I will definitely be engaging the services of a travel insurance provider the next time I venture far from home.

Heavenly Hawaii

It looks like my meeting has been moved from Vegas to Oregon, which is better for me personally and financially, but probably will not give me that Calgon feeling I was hoping for . . . I recently read a web release about Hawaii Vacation Rentals from Gebhart Properties that sound simply divine. I never really consider Hawaii an option when traveling just because of how widely publicized the expense is, especially because if I was going to have a wonderful time, I would want to stay somewhere high class and beautiful, and that’s probably a little out of the range of my pocketbook. But Gebhart offers exactly the kind of accommodations I would want, in a variety of popular Hawaiian locations, including the Waikoloa Beach Resort (they say it has some of “the finest condominiums in all of Hawaii” with 2,576 square feet of living space, featuring private elevator access, gourmet kitchen, an extensive collection of Hawaiian art and outstanding views of Anaeho’omalu Bay and Kileaua”). I think it founds absolutely heavenly! What do you think the chances are that I could convince my company to cover costs for us to meet there instead? :)

Phoenix Condos

Although we have decided on Vegas as our eventual hometown, for a while my boyfriend and I considered Phoenix — he’s very familiar with the city, likes the layout, the ASU girls, and the restaurants, but its a little too hot for me personally. I know, I know, Vegas is not much better, but the other advantages weigh that out for me. Still, I read an interesting web release today for some cool Phoenix Condos that are listed on CondoCompany.com. They allow you to easily find the contact information for a number of Realtors, including “building specialists” that have met certain requirements in order to specializes in a particular condo building, especially those that qualify as luxury high rises. As a person who believes there are few jobs that wouldn’t benefit from additional certification requirements, I think CondoCompany wouldn’t be a bad way to start a forray into the Phoenix, Arizona condo market. But I refuse to move anywhere that my boyfriend would include “hot coeds” on his “top three reasons to live in” list — that’s just asking for his heart to be broken. ;)

Higher Education

So it’s back to school tomorrow. Another three hour drive north and then three hours back (if I’m lucky). Damn construction & its related lane closures & delays. What ever made me think I could do this? I simply have to find lodgings at a location near my college, but I’m not sure how I’m going to afford it. For my next degree, and there will be another because having two masters degrees is just so fashionable nowadays, I think I will be going to an online institute of higher education like the aforementioned Capella University. Nothing, not even loyalty or personal affection, will ever compete with the convenience of learning from home. Preferably in my PJs. :)

Caribbean Dreaming

My previous post got me thinking about how much I’d like to walk across white sandy beaches with my boyfriend, doing the whole romantic getaway thing. I’ve previously written about Vacations.net, the leader in all-inclusive travel experiences, as one of the best resources for organizing and booking trips to exotic locations. They offer a number of Caribbean vacation packages that would be excellent for my purposes, I think. I love their options for the Dominican Republic, where I’ve wanted to go ever since a couple of my high school friends were sent there for rehab. One resort, the Excellence Punta Cana, is described as a “secluded luxury retreat surrounded by a lush canopy of coconut palms, vast grasslands, pristine beach, and the Caribbean Sea,” offering private balconies and Jacuzzi tubs in every suite. They even offer horseback riding, which is something I’ve been aching to do recently, and the absolutely crucial in-room high speed internet access. Ah, if only I had the time and money!
