My previous post got me thinking about how much I’d like to walk across white sandy beaches with my boyfriend, doing the whole romantic getaway thing. I’ve previously written about Vacations.net, the leader in all-inclusive travel experiences, as one of the best resources for organizing and booking trips to exotic locations. They offer a number of Caribbean vacation packages that would be excellent for my purposes, I think. I love their options for the Dominican Republic, where I’ve wanted to go ever since a couple of my high school friends were sent there for rehab. One resort, the Excellence Punta Cana, is described as a “secluded luxury retreat surrounded by a lush canopy of coconut palms, vast grasslands, pristine beach, and the Caribbean Sea,” offering private balconies and Jacuzzi tubs in every suite. They even offer horseback riding, which is something I’ve been aching to do recently, and the absolutely crucial in-room high speed internet access. Ah, if only I had the time and money!

Okay, so I was a little ticked that he flew off to the beaches of Costa Rica without me, but I can’t help but remember why I love him when he sends me pictures like this:

Awwww. Yeah, I know, I know. So I’m a sucker for a little sappy, sandy love. I guess I just get all warm and fuzzy knowing that he’s thinking about me.

I had a lovely meal this evening with my friend Kevin and his adorable family. Sometimes it just so damn pleasant to be around normal people, doing normal things. I spend so much time “getting stuff done” — working, studying, and cleaning (if I have the chance) — that I rarely get the opportunity to just sit back, relax, and engage in some nice conversation over some good wine and food. It was very hard to leave and get back to work, but that’s life, I suppose. . .

In browsing the web to find more fodder for my fantasy life of jetsetting to fun or exotic locations, I often find myself researching Orlando, FL — home to a variety of entertainment meccas, including Disney World and five other amazing theme parks that would be sure to send FraBaby into unending bouts of toddler ecstasy. I recently came across a web release for Orlando.com, which “provides the most affordable prices on the widest selection of hotels, car rentals and flights throughout the greater Orlando Florida area . . . with a travel guide offering tips on entertainment, dining, nightlife and more!” If you’re looking for an Orlando area hotel (for real or just to pretend you have the time, money, and initiative to take a vacation), you might want to check them out.

My handwriting has been described in a number of colorful ways throughout my life — my favorite being a comparison to an epileptic’s vomit — so I know it’s bad. Tragic, really. I think it’s one of the reasons I took so strongly to typing. But combine my lack of skillful penmanship with chalk, one of the most heinous writing materials ever created, and you can say goodbye to any form of legibility. This is an incredible handicap for a wannateach, and I know I’ll have to work on it. But how does one go about correcting a flaw that was introduced into the system from the beginning? Try learning cursive from a man whose hand was broken-in by writing literally millions of pages as a medical student before the advent of computers, and see how great your handwriting turns out!
