Managing Information

Security — of person, home, nation, and most of all, information — is going to be the issue that shapes the first decades of this millennium. I came across a web release for Symark, an information security solutions provider who offers “PowerBroker and PowerPassword-UME identity management and access control solutions,” which “combine best-of-breed functionality with ease-of-use to limit access to information and systems based on pre-defined policies and privileges.” This must be extraordinarily complicated — I can barely manage to set up a WiFi network that will work with my Macs & XP boxes — but so crucial if you are managing mission-critical information such as financial or human resource details. “Save the Server, Save the World,” I guess is the message . . . :)

Okay, I usually try to avoid religious-based humor, but this was just so good for where I’m at now in my life. Anyone who is paying for health insurance can appreciate this article from The Onion. It’s entitled “Jesus is My Health Insurance,” and is worth a read for great lines like this one: “Oh, once in a while those folks from P & H Collection Agency come calling, but I know it’s just Jesus testing me. For I know that just as He delivered Lazarus from the tomb, the Lord will deliver me from the $80,000 in unpaid medical costs on my billing statement.” Hehehe.

Gimme Some Sugar

Why is it when I’m on a diet, temptation appears at every turn?  I came across this great site, eSnacks, that has absolutely every kind of candy I crave.  From my favorite gum, Big League Chew, to my favorite chocolate bar, Cadbury’s Flakes, they have it all.  So many great memories are tied to these kind of sweets when I was a kid, like stuffing my mouth with an entire pack of BLC and then laying on my back, blowing massive bubbles and then competing with my friends to see who could keep theirs from popping for as long as possible.  And the prices are some of the lowest I’ve seen online, which makes me feel like it would be wrong not to buy something.  I think I will add these to my rewards list, to encourage my incremental weight loss.  I usually try to avoid using caloric rewards, but these are just too good!
